Group A Water Systems
Group A water systems serve more than 15 connections or more than 25 people per day for 60 or more days per year. Group A Water Systems are regulated by the Washington State Department of Health (WA DOH).

Group B Water Systems
Group B public water systems serve fewer than 15 connections and fewer than 25 people per day or 25 or more people per day during fewer than 60 days per year.

The Jan 1, 2014, Group B rule allows local health jurisdictions (LHJs) to adopt their own regulations if the locally adopted requirements are not less stringent than the state rule. Many LHJs adopt rules for Group B systems that include additional requirements.

The Benton-Franklin amended Rules & Regulations No. 7, where Group B water systems serving one or 2 service connections shall be subject to limited requirements for approval, unless specifically required to be a Group B system by WAC 246-291 or other applicable rule. Specific requirements for these systems are located in Section V of this rule, see BFHD Rules & Regulations No.7.
